Mantas chase by sight and smell. A manta crowds its prey by swimming around it so the present gathers the tiny fish. At that point, the beam speeds through the bundle of food with a fully open mouth. The cephalic blades channel particles into the mouth, while the gill curves gather them. Predators Executioner whales and enormous sharks go after mantas. Cutout sharks, which take round treat formed nibbles from their prey, can cause possibly lethal harm. Beams are helpless to an assortment of parasites. They routinely visit reef cleaning stations for wound cleaning and ectoparasite evacuation. The capacity of each fish to return to cleaning stations is viewed as proof manta beams build mental maps of their environmental factors. Proliferation Mating happens at various seasons and relies upon the mantas geographic area. Romance seems to include fish swimming in trains, regularly during the full moon. During mating, the male quite often gets a handle on the females left pectoral blade. He at that point turns so the two are gut to-gut and embeds a clasper into her cloaca. Growth is accepted to take 12 to 13 months. The egg cases bring forth inside the female. In the end, one to two puppies rise. Females for the most part conceive an offspring at regular intervals. Guys develop when they are more youthful and littler than females. Females typically develop around 8 to 10 years old. Mantas may satisfy 50 years in nature. Manta Rays and Humans Truly, manta beams were venerated or dreaded. It wasnt until 1978 that jumpers showed the creatures were delicate and would cooperate with people. Today, the absolute best achievement shielding manta beams has originated from ecotourism. Angling a manta for its meat, skin, or for gill rakers for Chinese conventional medication can win hundred of dollars. Be that as it may, each beam can acquire $1 million in the travel industry dollars over its lifetime. Scuba jumpers are well on the way to experience the incredible fish, yet the travel industry in the Bahamas, Hawaii, Indonesia, Australia, Spain, and different nations makes it feasible for anybody to see mantas. While the beams are not forceful, care must be taken to abstain from contacting the fish in light of the fact that disturbing its mucous layer makes it powerless to injury and disease. <img information srcset=https://www.thoughtco.com/thmb/qQOUuGXODgviht1aI-HqcOgcqiU=/300x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/manta-beam scuba-jumper revillagigedo-islandsm-477703415-5c02ebecc9e77c0001733029.jpg 300w, https://www.thoughtco.com/thmb/mc3fy_LsO2G5dsLg5Su6fSMTuns=/1506x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/manta-beam scuba-jumper revillagigedo-islandsm-477703415-5c02ebecc9e77c0001733029.jpg 1506w, https://www.thoughtco.com/thmb/9eJTud7TSNTZcnAciUk_UnRjn5Q=/2712x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/manta-beam scuba-jumper revillagigedo-islandsm-477703415-5c02ebecc9e77c0001733029.jpg 2712w, https://www.thoughtco.com/thmb/BGyIu4aDLyfjAErx7NvafbAcypU=/5125x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/manta-beam scuba-jumper revillagigedo-islandsm-477703415-5c02ebecc9e77c0001733029.jpg 5125w information src=https://www.thoughtco.com/thmb/27cdzLa41BNhPo7RjBtPcs-uD9M=/5125x3415/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/manta-beam scuba-jumper revillagigedo-islandsm-477703415-5c02ebecc9e77c0001733029.jpg src=//:0 alt=Mantas are not forceful toward people. class=lazyload information click-tracked=true information img-lightbox=true information expand=300 id=mntl-sc-square image_1-0-27 information following container=true /> Mantas are not forceful toward people. James R.D. Scott/Getty Images Protection Status The IUCN Red List groups both M. alfredi and M. birostris as open to a raised danger of termination. While mantas are ensured by numerous nations, their numbers are declining a result of relocation through unprotected waters, overfishing, bycatch, entrapment in angling gear, ingestion of microplastics, water contamination, pontoon crashes, and environmental change. Neighborhood populaces face an extreme danger on the grounds that there is little association between subpopulations. Due to the fishs low regenerative rate, its impossible mantas in unprotected territories can recuperate, especially from overfishing. In any case, a couple of open aquariums are sufficiently enormous to house manta beams. These remember the Georgia Aquarium for Atlanta, the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, and the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in Japan. The aquarium in Okinawa has effectively birthed manta beams in imprisonment. Sources Ebert, D

The Third Wave essays

The Third Wave articles In Alvin Toffler's book, The Third Wave, he talks about our movement as a general public. One can without much of a stretch see the example to the referenced waves. He depicts wave one as the beginning of farming. It additionally denotes the start of our way of life. Wave two, denotes the start of the Industrial Revolution, nuclear pulverization, and standard things. The change that happens between these two waves is the beginning of what we call progress. It affected our families, our planet, and set the tone for financial matters. With first wave of families, networks were shaped. Each individual from every network added to the necessities of the gathering. Family run ranches delivered what the town required. Large scale manufacturing was not a training. Networks just delivered what was essential Families had shared duties. Occupations were regularly family exchanges went down from father to child for some ages. Each individual assumed a key job in the town's presence. In the subsequent wave, we see the beginning of an increasingly narrow minded disapproved of society. Industrialism starts to break the family conventions and attract its part's away to urban areas run by manufacturing plants. These foundations would flexibly what might become standard things. Work was done for the sake of progress, and states endured a steady change. Another progressing change likewise happens in our estimation of life. Our craving for presence in wave one was distinctly of an insignificant prerequisite. We just took what was required from our planet. Land was of valuable worth, and treated thusly. Nature was a blessing that apportioned its endowments persistently satisfying our needs. With the beginning of progress, we before long found a device for mass demolition. Nuclear bombs were showed as weapons of demolition. It was a period of complete carelessness, and mass pulverization. Necessities changed to a requirement for unreasonable force. The possibility to annihilate our entire presence developed from a culture that once adored the land. ... <!

The waiting is the hardest part

The waiting is the hardest part I can see from the comments that many of you are, quite understandably, very anxious. Ive seen this twice a year for the past four years of being an admissions officer, and Im not sure if during that time Ive learned anything that I could share with you that would help you relax. But maybe my favorite story from last years early action will help lighten things a little It was one year ago. Decision letters were in the mail. Students were anxious. We had heard through the grapevine about one very enterprising student named Nick. Our sources relayed this communication from Nick: I got fed up with racing home from school everyday to check on the mail, only to find NOTHING from MIT. So, I have taken matters into my own hands. I wrote a note to my mailman, telling him to leave anything from MIT in a designated space marked off w/electrical tape. Then I rigged up an outdoor webcam using an eggo-waffles box, a USB webcam, some cat5 cable, and my laptop. Now I can check not only if I have anything from MIT from school, I can see the SIZE of the envelope! Its still dark here in VAbeing its 3:18AM. But you can see the space marked off with tape, and the letters M-I-T inside. looking forward to checking up on this throughout the day! Mail in our area arrives anywhere between noon and 4 pm. hope the mailman obeys my instructions. Being MIT admissions officers, this was the sort of thing that we thought was really really cool. And, partially because Nick had a history of doing such cool things, we had admitted him the previous week, only he didnt know that yet. We knew what was coming, but still we anxiously awaited what we knew would be the arrival of an admit letter. Finally, a little after 3pm on December 19, 2003, Nick learned via his webcam that he had received a large, 10 x 13 envelope from MIT: he was admitted early action. Finally, the quote of the day, Stephen Hawking in yesterdays NY Times Magazine (login required): People who boast about their I.Q. are losers.

Why Immigration Is Responsible For Crime Essay - 1586 Words

In what ways could immigration lead to higher levels of crime? Explain whether, or under what circumstances, it does. People migrate for various reason, such as working, studying and asylum seeking. In 2014, OECD data display the inflow of foreign population to the UK is 504,000; US has 1,016518; Canada has 260,411. It is a double-edged sword – productive immigrants contribute to the economic growth of the country and do not threaten the welfare of the natives. On the contrary, if the immigrants find it hard to adapt to the country, they would increase the cost of the country(Borjas, 1994). It is common that when one thinks about immigration, he would relate it to the negative influences that are brought by the immigrants, as Edith Abbott states in the report of the National Commission of Law and Enforecement(1931: 23) â€Å"The theory that immigration is responsible for crime, †¦ that all newcomers should be regarded with an attitude of suspicion, is a theory that is almost as old as the colonies planted by Englishmen on the New England coast.† Hence, we would like to explore whe ther, or under what circumstances does immigration lead to higher levels of crime. First, Bell et al. (2013) argue that immigrants with low labour market opportunities could lead to higher level of crime. Romeo and Juliet is a play about love Essay Example

Romeo and Juliet is a play about love Essay Romeo and Juliet is a play about love, but this word means different things to different characters in the play, and for some, like Romeo, its meaning changes as the play progresses. Discuss the theme of love in Romeo and Juliet and examine the different attitudes towards love that the characters have.Romeo and Juliet is a play about fate, hate, passion and most of all love. From the beginning love has a strong hold on the audience, particularly their emotion. The theme of love is used and shown in many different ways throughout the play, for example love goes from being shown as a lustful, melancholy emotion, such as Romeos love for Rosaline, to a happy joyful emotion, such as Romeos love for Juliet. Each and every character has a different approach and view to love from everyone else. As well as many different views towards love being shown throughout the play there are also many different types of love shown, such as, unrequited, passionate and motherly love.Love also brings many dramatic aspects to the play; most notable is the dramatic tension it brings. The dramatic tension is created by the strong contrast between love and hate, which is consistent throughout the play. The audience can see that Romeo and Juliet are in love, which is full of passion, yet they know that their love is death marked by the hate between the two families, the Montagues and the Capulets. The tension is fuelled by the fact that the audience knows that the two lovers are going to die, which is made known by the chorus at the beginning of the play. This would make the audience hope and silently cry out in the hope that they can prevent this tragedy from taking place. The tension would have been a particular enjoyment to the Elizabethan audience, as they loved seeing love, passion and sex as well as violence and death. Fate acts as a contrasting theme with love. It is used to emphasize the strength and danger that is contained within Romeo and Juliets love. The rash swiftness of Rome o and Juliets love only adds to the knowing of an ill fate, for the sweetest honey, Is loathsome in his own deliciousness. The contrast between love and fate creates a strong bond between Romeo and Juliets love even though we know that it is going to be short lived.Romeo is an excellent example of how the meaning of love evolves and changes as the play progresses. At the beginning of the play Romeo is in love with Rosaline. However this love is unrequited and is more of a lustful relationship. Romeo expresses his confusion over his feelings by using oxymorons to describe the way he is feeling, o brawling love, o loving hate, O heavy lightness, serious vanity. The fact that he is confused shows that he isnt feeling true love, for if he cant be sure of his thoughts and feelings, how can he be sure that he is in love? Romeo can clearly not distinguish between genuine and false love. Could it be however, that Romeo wants to be confused? It seems that he is enjoying wallowing in self-pit y as though he is love with the idea of being in love. The fact that Rosaline has not returned Romeos love seems to have attracted Romeo more as Rosaline has hurt his self esteem and so he wants to prove that he can get her if he wants her. Romeos love for Rosaline is also very physical for when Benvolio suggests Romeo should begin looking at other women, in order to get over Rosaline, Romeo replies Ill go along, no such sight to be shown, But to rejoice in splendour of mine own. Despite all of Romeos loving feelings for Rosaline, it seems that subconsciously he knows that what he is feeling isnt true love. Romeos reaction to Benvolios questioning over Rosaline expresses how lost and unsure this love has made him feel, Tut I have lost myself; I am not here, This is not Romeo, hes some other where Friar Lawrence sums up Romeos love affair with Rosaline as, Thy love did read by rote, that could not spell, he tells Romeo that hes going through the motions but the love he is feeling is artificial and meaningless. The moment Romeo sees Juliet his views and attitude towards love changes. He instantly begins to complement her beauty, which provides a foundation for his love for Juliet, Did my heart love until now? Forswear it sight, For I neer saw true beauty till this night. This instantly shows that Romeos love for Rosaline had been a doting, false charade. Although Romeos love for Rosaline and his love for Juliet share a common feature in physical attraction, the attraction for Juliet has the opposite affect on Romeo than it did when he loved Rosaline. When he was in love with Rosaline, Romeo built up a false world, and locked himself away from society. However when he sees Juliets beauty he wants to be part of the world again. Romeo approaches Juliet soon after he first lays his eyes on her and begins to speak to her as though she is a religious aspect, If I profane with my unworthiest hand, This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this, My lips two blushing pilgrims re ady to stand, To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss. Religion is associated with devotion and love, so by connecting Juliet to religion, he is expressing the strength of his love for Juliet and the devotion he has for her.Romeos love is proved to be genuine when he meets Mercutio for the first time since meeting Juliet. He is happy and joyful which Mercutio comments on, Now art thou sociable, now art thou Romeo. Now art thou what thou art, by art as well as nature, for this drivelling love is like a great natural that runs lolling up and down to hide his bauble in a hole. This is a great contrast to how Romeo acted when he thought he was in love with Rosaline and so by being merry and happy he shows us that he is truly feeling love. This is ironic, as Mercutio doesnt realise that Romeo wasnt in love before but is now. Romeos attitude towards love is always dreamy, whether it is genuine or not.He gets carried away with emotion and babbles on about his actions and feelings. A prime example of this is when he climbs over the Capulet wall to get to Juliet. She is quick to warn of the dangers he will face if he gets caught and she asks how he got over the wall, he teases her with his imagination by saying, With loves light wings did I oerperch these walls, For stony limits cannot hold love out, And what love can do, that dares no attempt. Therefore thy kinsmen are no to stop me. Romeos dreamy attitude also expresses his brave, romantic loving for Juliet, telling her that none of her men would be able to stop him. At the end of the play Romeos overall love and devotion to Juliet is shown when he kills himself, as he cannot face living without her.Like Romeo, Juliets attitude towards love changes and progresses as the play goes on, as does her character. Juliet is viewed as a child by her father, Capulet, throughout the play and she acts accordingly. Her early views on love are virtually non-existent as she relies heavily on her peers to make her decisions fo r her. This is shown when Lady Capulet suggests marrying Paris, Juliet obediently replies Ill look to like, if looking liking move. But no more deep will I endart mine eye, Than your consent gives strength to make it fly. Juliets child-like ways make her seem very naà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ve and unsure of what she wants.Lady Capulet arranges for Juliet to meet Paris at the Capulet feast, however little does she know that by doing so Juliet will begin to grow up and develop her own attitude and views towards love. Juliet meets Romeo while at the feast and is instantly attracted to him. Her love is quickly exposed as she replies to Romeos comment that hes unworthy to touch her, Good Pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much, Which mannerly devotion shows in this; For Saints have hands that Pilgrims hands do touch,And palm to palm is holy palmers kiss. The love that Juliet has for Romeo is very strong, so strong that Juliet is willing to risk everything, My only love sprung from my only hate, Too early seen, and known too late! Juliet isnt frightened to declare her love despite the troubles she may face. Juliet also has a strong contrast to Romeo, for she is a lot more practical in comparison to dreamy Romeo. Juliets practicality is shines through at the same time she declares her love, for she follows her declaration with, Prodigious birth of love it is to me. Juliet knows her love is going to be risky whereas Romeo hasnt even considered it.As Juliets attitude develops, as does her love. She begins to care deeply for Romeo and so along with her practical nature in hand warns Romeo of the dangers that he faces by climbing the Capulet Wall, The orchard walls are high, and hard to climb, And the place death, considering who thou art. Juliets caring nature coincides with the empowerment love has over Juliet on two occasions. The first being when the nurse criticises Romeo for killing Romeo. Juliet is quick to turn on the nurse blistered be thy tongue, Juliet screams at the nurs e, For such a wish. He was not born to shame. Then in complete contrast to her ways at the beginning of the play Juliet stands up to her father when he tells her that she is o marry Paris. Juliet refuses as she knows she has to stay faithful to Romeo, she refuses to marry him telling Lady Capulet, Delay this marriage for a month, a week, Or if you do not, make the bridal bed, In that dim monument where Tybalt lies. As we know this turns out to be Juliets fate, for as the ultimate sacrifice to her love for Romeo, Juliet kills herself when she finds him dead. The character of Paris doesnt portray his views of love too well throughout the play, however the attitude that Shakespeare does reveal to us is in complete contrast to Romeo and Juliets attitude. He wants to marry Juliet, but it would be a marriage de convenance similar to that of Capulet and Lady Capulet. The Nurse has the most individual views and attitude towards love than any other character within the play. The nurses love is based very much upon physical appearance, more so than anyone else in the play. She is also very crude within this attitude, focusing a lot on sex. When Lady Capulet asks Juliet about marrying Paris, at the start of the play the nurse quickly interrupts her telling Juliet, No less, nay bigger; women grow by men.Her view of marriage is very different from Romeo and Juliet as she sees money as coming before love and marriage. When Romeo first questions the Nurse as to who Juliet is she makes a sleigh comment telling Romeo whoever marries her Shall have the chinks. Despite this attitude towards love, the Nurse does express genuine love for Juliet. The love she shows is maternal, caring love, which contrasts to her crude love. She is very protective over Juliet, warning Romeo not to lead Juliet into a fools paradise for if he does it would be a very weak dealing. The Nurse looks at appearances, making it seem as though along with money it makes a marriage. Before the wedding the nurse t alks of Romeos body as better than any mans informing Juliet that his legs excel all mens. There is evidence however that the Nurse has indeed experienced true love. She often speaks highly of her former husband who died some years ago.Benvolio has the most similar views to the Nurse than anyone else. He focuses on looks more than anything else, which is shown when he tells Romeo to Examine other beauties, in order to get over Rosaline. However he has a caring, friendly love for Rosaline, for although he tells Romeo to take thou new infection to thy eye, he only wants Romeo to do this so that he is happy. Perhaps the problem is that he has never experienced love like Romeo has for both Rosaline and Juliet, which is why he cant help or understand Romeo.Mercutio is often very bawdy and makes it clear that he hasnt experienced love by jeering at Romeo, Romeo! Humours! Madman! Passion! Lover! he cries, Cry but Ay me, pronounce but love and dove;. Like Benvolio, Mercuito doesnt understan d why Romeo feels the way he feels. Mercutio, like the Nurse focuses on sex, which he strongly express when he shouts, If love be blind, love cannot hit the mark.

Email in the Enterprise essays

Email in the Enterprise essays Email in the Enterprise has grown into a necessary evil for corporate leaders. In todays workplace, email has become as much a staple as the copy machine. Because of its speed, low cost, and efficient use of technology, it is a management headache for every C.I.O. on the list of Fortune 1000. Besides the worry of ever changing viral and worm threats, supervisors have to monitor and manage the personal use of the company email system. There is also the need for companies to provide a certain amount of email archiving to allow for data recovery without exposing the company to unnecessary expenses in the event of retrieving evidence in legal matters. Another consideration is the way email has grown from an informal Internet line of communication to a high level and formal way of communicating in the modern workplace. Email in the Enterprise has brought on new challenges for the CIO, forcing the Chief Information Officer to safeguard against mal-ware, to be prepared for legal respo nsibilities, and to establish guidelines for use. Email has several pitfalls, which managers must learn to deal with. Of these concerns the more serious and prolific are the guarding against mal-ware, preparing for disasters, and the onslaught of the unsolicited email known as Spam. All of these problems can cost a company a lot of money to safeguard against and prepare for. For most companies this means managers are trying to do more with less personal and resources in todays competitive global economy. Most of us can remember when, in March of 1999, we heard on the news of a new virus, Melissa that was shutting down email systems around the world. It was a simple exploit as described by CERT (originally called the "Computer Emergency Response Team formed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) that used a macro to spread itself by enticing the victim to open an email attachment. The reason this virus was so successful i...

8 Ways to Increase Your Confidence at Work

8 Ways to Increase Your Confidence at Work Think about the most successful people you know. Chances are, the common thread is confidence. Successful people believe in themselves and that confidence helps them to keep on succeeding and succeeding- which, in turn, makes them more confident! Feel left out of the confidence club? Don’t fear. But don’t do nothing either. You can and should induct yourself into the secret society of self-satisfaction. Here are 8 easy ways to do just that.1. Know yourselfTake a good hard look at yourself, first and foremost. Confidence is usually earned, and confident people are just as aware of their shortcomings as they are of their strengths. Get to know your selling points and the areas where you might need work. Do a thorough self-assessment.2. Don’t be a pushoverIt’s important to say â€Å"no† from time to time. Practice saying â€Å"no,† when prudent, and make sure to make your refusals clear. A simple â€Å"No, sorry† is worth a million  "I’m just not sure†¦Ã¢â‚¬ s, and will make both you and the favor-asker feel less stressed and more secure.3. Get in good with the bossIf you have a good relationship with your boss, great. If not, try to strategize how you might repair the relationship and start over on a better foot. Otherwise, the stress will be a huge drain on your energy and your self-esteem, both in the office and at home.4. Set a bunch of smaller goalsConfident people are always winning, even in small increments. Challenge yourself constantly and, more often than not, you’ll succeed. Celebrate these small victories both because you deserve to and because you’ll get into the habit of succeeding. Before you know it, you’ll be used to winning too.5. Get a mentorA good mentor can help you advance in the course of your career, making small corrections to steer you straight. They’ll tell you where you’re coming up short, but they’ll also give you a pat on the b ack when you deserve it. And pats on the back build confidence!6. Work outSeriously. Exercise creates endorphins. It also makes you feel more capable emotionally, socially, and professionally. If you can work out regularly and push yourself, you’ll feel like you can translate those skills out of the gym and into your work.7. Play dress upPeople are judgmental. They do pay attention to how we present ourselves physically. Try dressing a bit smarter, but make sure to choose clothing that reflects you and your style. Be neat and tidy and make the extra effort. The compliments alone will boost your confidence.8. Don’t be a jerkIt’s important to be assertive, but make sure not to overcompensate with aggression. This means keeping your insecurities in check. Once you learn this delicate balancing act, you’ll be well-equipped to wield your new confident self with ease.

There has been a dispute that fast foods do not source obesity to a certain extent than eating of extra calories than the body can devour is what directs to gain of weight. Individuals who hold this view dispute that environmental features for instance fast food consumption on a usual basis might direct to weight gain and eventually the peril of obesity however on the identical note such eating might not direct to weight gain. It has been mentioned that one can in point of fact lose weight when they are yet on such sort of diet. This can be made in the course of balancing the right amount of consumed calories in the day course and what the body eventually uses. If the body utilizes further than is typically consumed the individual will lose some weight. One of the attributes which one must deem in an endeavor to establish whether fast food in reality source obesity is to glance at the choices of lifestyle which may direct to this predicament. For instance people who have made it a practice to eat fast food for the superior fraction of their week devoid of engaging in additional physical activities will further expected append weight and possibly wind up being obese. Conversely it is worthy to note that eating of further type of food particularly those which are lower in fats will not for all time direct to problems of body weight. It is clearly apparent that people who eat fast food are at a larger risk of being obese than those who consume further type of food. (Seeman Neil and Patrick Luciani.2008) Fast food if taken devoid of self-control direct to disturbing effects, they construct children append weight; add to the risk of problems of cardiovascular in addition to diabetes. Obesity is one of the foremost predicaments connected with this sort of consumption. Consumption of Fast food has been illustrated by nutritional specialist as meager feeding in view of the fact that one does not acquire all the requisite nutrients and additional predominantly in the correct quantity. Fast foods are identified to be loaded in energy the majority of which is piled up in the body as fats make them hazardous for the consumers. Department of US of Health and Human Services (HHS) since 1980 has publishedHealthy Peoplereports every decade that: identify national health targets for ten years, encourage collaborations across various sectors, guide individuals toward making informed health decisions and measure the impact of prevention activity. The new aim could be achieved by diminishing calorie intake, increasing physical activity or both. These goals among other things include specific recommendations that address, sugar-sweetened beverage consumption, nutritional labeling, the availability of lower-calorie children’s meals in restaurants, marketing of food and beverages to children, and) to monitor and track a child’s body-mass index and provide interventions using the electronic medical record (EMR]. By Telling someone to stop simply eating will not cure the obesity disease because it needs to be something that is in the genes of the person. By telling someone simply to exercise more will not cure the obesity disease because food can be used as an outlet for stress. There is no clean-cut cause of obese, so there will never be a clear cut solution either. Governments can as well aid reduce obesity, a lot of experts say, by providing farmers’ markets and supermarkets with incentives to offer healthier foods and institute their trades in small-income areas.[ Smed S, Jensen JD, Denver]. Many, local governments schools and hospitals around the country have implemented policies to reduce obesity by banning the sale and serving of sugary drinks, which are high in calories and have little or no nutritional value Conclusion A good solution to any health concerns would be to grow your own food in a garden in your yard. When you grow your own food, you know what’s going into the food, where it is coming from, and how fresh it is. Foods grown by you are usually the healthiest, too, because it is almost always a natural process.[ Dong D, Lin B.], Research which have been executed in the current past have established that fast food is the foremost source of obesity amongst the school going kids particularly in areas which fast food outlets are located close to schools or areas visited by this section of the population. In a few areas authorities have gone further on to limit opening up of outlets close to school to avert the children from over consuming these foods. This is one of the measures which must be reinforced to make certain that the kids to not over pamper in fast food divulging them to obesity. The masses must also be taught on the hazards of fast food, people must be persuaded to moderate their use to keep away from weight problems and additional complications connected with it. There are a variety of ways for promoting healthy weight in kids. We can resolve overeating of food issues at home and school. We can force our children to increase exercise and activity. For the majority children who are heavy or overweight, the safest and the majority efficient means to lose weight is to eat less andexerciseextra.. Make a chart this month to restrict fast food. You definitely do not have to slash it out altogether, nevertheless center on small improvements to the degree that you can. Just by setting your lunch a few days a week, you can use considerably less fat and calories. As it turns out to be easier for you, make extra changes. Steady changes can guide to an extensive healthy life. Health is more significant then taste as a result by increasing eating homemade food give assurance to our health by giving up consumption of fast food calories or fats and refined sugar and by eating fresh vegetables, fruits, milk and additional nutrient horded food in our daily diet. As a result, we have got to give up fast food and consume food which provides vitamins, fiber, minerals and additional protecting food to safeguard us in opposition to heart attack, diabetes cancers, and additional degenerative disorders..As it can be perceived that the food which is additionally fresh have more nutritional implication as the homemade food is always fresh includes no preservative or chemical and constructs us wealthy, healthy, and wise. At last the effect appears to be that fast food is in large or small quantity provides diseases simply in contrast that homemade food enhances our health. The British Institute for facilities Management (1996) defines it as: The practice of coordinating the physical workplace with the people and work of an organization, (It) integrates the principle of business administration, architecture and the behavioral and engineering sciences. As the overview of this definition (Figure 1.1) shows, facilities management represents broad ranging issues. Managing Facilities The overview of facilities Management Facilities Management Behavioral and engineering science The physical workspace People The work of the organization Architecture Business administration What value does facilities management has the hotels? If facilities management is about managing physical assets, it has considerable relevance to other hospitality businesses, as the property or the premises in which the hospitality is delivered, form a major part of the product package sold to customers. Customer needs could be for overnight accommodation, a meeting area or a restaurant meal. In each case, the physical assets will form an important part of the product. Some of the common elements required to produce the accommodation product are shown in figure 1.2. Guests might also require: A source of information (e.g. regarding to other amenities) Privacy Secretarial assistance Porter age Car- Parking Space Ramp Access Lifts Personal laundry service Sleeping facilities As can be seen, the physical assets are prominent. The list could go on. Whereas many of the identified needs of customers are tangible (e.g. the lift, the guestroom and the hot water) and relate to physical assets, other needs (e.g. security and feeling of well-being) are largely intangible. Since the accommodation forms a major part of product, even in small hotels, the capital outlay or revenue expenditure on the property is proportionately high compared with other businesses. In order for business to be conducted in a hotel, it is essential for at least certain of the physical assets to be actively managed. Although the term facilities management might not be used, elements of facilities management would need to be applied to hotels to achieve business success. The Accommodation product Appropriate heating lighting and ventilation Appropriate personal security Feeling of well-being Satisfactory standard of hygiene, safety, cleanliness, appearance and maintenance Provision for personal hygiene Food and beverage provision Design and dà ©cor Appropriate furniture, fittings, furnishings and equipment The development of facilities management A property based discipline Facilities management as a practice has its roots in the USA, where development took place during the 1980s. It is evolving from a property management, services and maintenance (including cleaning, caretaking, and waste disposal and catering) into a much more proactive, strategic role. In this role, it is also concerned with the design of property and the work environment, purchasing and future management and maintenance of the property thus, it covers a broad area of non-core activities (see Figure 1.3). Such activities could include IT Services and even human resources management. It is strategic role of facilities management which will be developed in this book. The evolution of facilities management Repairs and maintenance Cleaning and waste disposal Property purchase and design for target market Property valuation to determine use Refits to meet change or need Changes of service to meet change in demand patterns Policies on space utilization and staffing implications Policies on planned management of all physical assets From a management perspective, facilities management must consider the needs of all building users, together with the needs of others who may affect by the management of the building. The needs of the following people, therefore, have to be considered. Shareholders have an interest in business and property value and the asset value and service standards must be maintained or developed. Employees need an efficient working environment. This is conductive to high morale and to high morale and to high quality and productivity. Customers in a hotel will not only be visiting the establishment, the will, hopefully, enjoy using its facilities. Considerable expertise must go into creating an atmosphere and environment which reinforces the good image of the organization. The local community will be affected by the property. Aspects such as visual appearance, pollution, traffic (as a result of business), employment and the encouragement of local custom must be all managed. Reliable suppliers who provide consistent quality are very important to the success of any organization. They might be providing a service, staff, equipment or supplies. Partnership, strategic alliances and other agreements are some means by which this group can be managed. Recent history gives some indication as to how and why the concept of facilities management, in general, not just in the hospitality industry, has developed in the last decade and the hospitality industry, has developed in the last decade and suggest that although many of the strands are not new, the overall approach does not have a different emphasis. The various factors which may have attributed to the rise in facilities management will now be considered. The scope of facilities management Car fleet management Cleaning Construction Contract management Energy management Furniture selection Human resources Health and safety Interior design Lighting IT management Linen and laundry Maintenance Mechanical engineering Organizational behavior Project management Reprographics and design Security Space planning management Procurement and supplies management Travel management Accounts Acoustics Architecture Computer and design Factors attributing to the development of facilities management Cost reductions Fierce competition, depressed trading conditions, higher energy costs and other economic elements have forced companies to look at all means of reducing costs and maintaining the market edge. Facilities costs can be very significant. Stipanuk and Roffman (1992) estimated that a full service hotel of under 125 rooms has an average expense of 11.9 per cent of turnover for property management and energy. With costs, savstings can best be made at the design stage of buildings. The development of ideas on terotechnology (considering life-cycle costs at the planning stage) is yet another probable stimulus for the development of facilities management concepts. In response to the rising awareness of property costs, attempts have been made to forecast total ownership costs of buildings (life-cycle costs) at the planning stage. These costs would include: Initial (fixed costs) + Operating costs + Residual costs (e.g. demolition or sale). The need for flexibility Continuous change of policy, market and methods within organizations is now common. Whereas once, such decisions and changes whereas once, such decisions and changes were momentous and seen to be long-lasting, now they are considered to be more routine. At one time, there was only an occasional need for someone to oversee change whereas now that person is needed full-time. Changes related to physical assets include extending or reducing overall working space, modifying workstations to facilitate changing work methods or achieving building modifications in line with rate of churn (i.e. movement of personnel within the jobs in the building). Obsolescence related to workspace rarely, means physical delay, it often means the right fabric in the place. Such as process of change has been evidenced in hotels with relation to computerization and in restaurants as eating habits change and customer expectations of environment alter. In addition, response time needs to be fast. Downtime is wast e. Hotel rooms are a perishable commodity as those not sold twice tomorrow night. Acknowledgement of the facilities as a major resource of the business itself, often means that premises are used round the clock. Trends in the development of facilities management Many changes in recent years have been technological (e.g. building design and telecommunications). At the same time, human needs and expectations have changed and there is need to bridge the gap between the technical and human (see figure 1.6). In looking at the growth of facilities management in the UK, a number of trends become evident. Management and customer perceptions Need to change physical assets from overheads to resources Prestige Employee needs and expectations Working conditions Morale Sick building syndrome Negligence claims Need for flexibility Continuous market changes Need for responses Heavier use of facilities Cost reductions Competition Depressed trading conditions Higher energy conditions Higher energy costs Higher cost of space Need for operational efficiency Downsizing Need to focus on core competitiveness Government policies Compulsory competitive tendering Health and safety

A cost-effective company

Companies must remain effective and efficient in order to compete in today’s business word. Organizations, even non-profit organizations, must remain cost effective and efficient to remain viable. In order to be cost-effective, a company sets a budget and goals and uses the company’s assets to meet those goals. As long as they remain within the budget, they can focus their attention on meeting the goals of the company.A cost-effective company meets its goals with the funding provided; a company that is not cost-effective either fails to complete the goal altogether or requires additional funds in order to do so. This company must also be cost efficient, meaning that they cannot spend four dollars when two dollars is sufficient. In addition, they must put the company’s finances ahead of all else, including job stability. A cost effective and efficient company stays within a budget while still meeting its goals. It is more important for any organization to be cost e ffective than cost efficient. In the overall picture, an organization must seek to meet its goals above all else. They must focus on using their resources to meet the goals, rather than setting the goal at saving money. Shareholders expect a return on their investment, which absolutely cannot happen if the company does not focus its attention on getting the best value for its dollars. For example, Volvo strives to make the safest cars in the world; for the most part, it has succeeded in this goal. The company uses its resources to maintain an image of safety while remaining profitable. For this reason, consumers view Volvo as the â€Å"safe† car brand; this is why the company is cost-effective rather than cost-efficient. In order to be cost-efficient, Volvo would have to put the product second and the cost of producing the product first. Safety would give way to economy, and this would completely undermine the branding strategy.

Pro-Abstinence Sex Education Efficient or Dangerous

Pro-Abstinence Sex Education: Efficient or Dangerous? For years supporters of two different approaches to sex education, that is pro-abstinence sex education and comprehensive sex education, have been involved in a blazing discussion. Those who advocate the first approach believe that abstaining from sex is the best way to avoid out of wedlock pregnancy, STDs and HIV. They also consider that providing children with abundant information about sex and related issues results in early sexual experimentation. However, this type of sex education does not seem to yield substantial results. There are a number of academic reviews indicating that abstinence have little influence upon young people’s sexual behaviour. The best outcome they have been able to reach so far is encouraging teenagers to delay their first sexual intercourse in the short-term. According to studies, those young people who choose to delay their first sexual intercourse generally hold strong religious beliefs. It means that it is only efficient for a restricted group of young people and cannot be regarded as a universal solution. Moreover, research shows that those teenagers who get abstinence-based education might be less knowledgeable about STDs and HIV and their prevention than other young people. Consequently, they run a risk of ruining their health. More worryingly, abstinence-based sex education programmes are reported to misinform teenagers about the lack of effectiveness of contraception and condoms as well as to exaggerate psychological risks connected with sex and conceal information about positive aspect of sexual relationships. As a result, young people get distorted and biased ideas about sexual life. Taking into account all these things we may say that pro-abstinence sex education appears to be inefficient. When it comes to health issues, ignorance is not blessed. Therefore, it is crucial for teenagers to be accurately informed about sex and to be able to make their own wise decisions.

Famous Blessings, Sayings, and Songs About Hanukkah

The name of this Jewish holiday can be spelled many different ways, but the two most widely accepted are Hanukkah and Chanukah. The holiday is also known as the Festival of Lights. In honor of the celebration of Hanukkah, here are some blessings, proverbs, thoughts, and even a song from famous people such as American film producer Ralph Levy, American author Dave Barry, poet Hannah Senesh, and many others. Dave Barry In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season; the Christians called it Christmas  and went to church; the Jews called it Hanukkah and went to synagogue; the atheists went to parties and drank. People passing each other on the street would say Merry Christmas!  or Happy Hanukkah! or (to the atheists) Look out for the wall! Chinese Proverb It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. Allen Ginsberg From: Psalm III Let the crookedness and straightness bespeak the light. Ralph Levy Now, near the Winter Solstice, it is good to light candles. All the nice meanings of bringing light to the world can be beautiful. But perhaps we are concentrating on lighting the world because we dont know how to light up our own lives. Hanukkah Blessing May This Festival of Lights bring Blessings upon you and All Your Loved Ones for Happiness, for Health, and for Spiritual and Material Wealth, and May the Lights of Chanukah Usher in the Light of Moshiach and a Better World for All of Humankind. Rabbi David Hartman The major question, which we must ponder on Hanukkah, is whether the Jewish people can develop an identity that will enable it to meet the outside world without feeling threatened or intimidated. The choice, hopefully, need not be ghettoization or assimilation. We can absorb from others without being smothered. We can appreciate and assimilate that which derives from foreign sources and at the same time feel firmly anchored to our particular frame of reference. Emma Lazarus, The Feast of Lights Kindle the taper like the steadfast star Ablaze on evenings forehead oer the earth, And add each night a lustre till afar. Ralph Levy Hanukkah — Another View We have focused on the miracle-thing and I think we often overlook the message of Hanukkah. To me, the core of the holiday is the cleaning of the temple... The accomplishment was in restoring the temple to the purpose for which it was built. Now think of the temple as a symbol. Perhaps it represents my life. The world has tried to use me for its own (perhaps good, but none-the-less extrinsic) purposes. But now I can rededicate myself to my own original purpose. II Maccabees 10. 6-7 They celebrated it for eight days with gladness like Sukkot   and recalled how a little while before, during Sukkot,   they had been wandering in the mountains and caverns like wild animals. So carrying lulavs ... they offered hymns of praise   to God who had brought to pass the purification of His own place. Charles Reznikoff From the poem: Meditations on the Fall and Winter Holidays The miracle, of course, was not that the oil for the sacred light — in a little cruse — lasted as long as they say; but that the courage of the Maccabees lasted to this day: let that nourish my flickering spirit. Adam Sandler From the song: The Hanukkah Song   Put on your yarmulke, Here comes Hanukkah! So much funukah, To celebrate Hanukkah! Hanukkah is the festival of lights. Instead of one day of presents, we have eight crazy nights. Hannah Senesh Blessed is the match consumed in kindling flame. Blessed is the flame that burns in the secret fastness of the heart.
